Before the Pest Control Technician arrives to commence treatment, You MUST carry out the following preparations on all the visits:

bed bugs before treatment
  • All beds, settees and chairs will need to be treated.
  • Move all beds, furniture and other items away from the bedroom walls,
  • Please clean the rooms to be treated thoroughly.
  • Please clear all rooms of any clutter so furniture can be moved.
  • Remove all stored items from under the bed, and place on the floor in the centre of the room.
  • Please strip all linen and bedding from the beds, place in plastic bin liners, and close tightly, so mattress can be moved for treatment and the bed base can be upturned. Please remove the headboard, if possible, for treatment. Keep the bags in the affected room until the technician arrives.
  • Please empty surrounding cupboards and drawers to allow access for treatment.
  • Please take down wall mounted furniture, eg. pictures etc. and lean them against the wall to allow for treatment.
  • People and domestic pets must leave the rooms being treated.

After the Pest Control Officers have carried out the treatment:

  • Do not enter treated rooms for at least 2 hours but preferably 3 hours afterwards.
  • Treated areas may be safely re-entered when the spray is all dry, typically 2 – 3 hours after treatment. The property should then be ventilated for a couple of hours. The dried beds should then be re-made with clean linen, and cleaned items placed back in drawers
    etc.
  • Wash all bed linen and clothing at 60º or tumble dry it on a “hot setting” for 30 minutes before it is used again or put away.
  • Do not vacuum the carpets for at least 15 days to allow the insecticide time to work.
  • Avoid storing items under the bed.
  • Keep the treated rooms well heated for at least a couple of weeks after treatment. The treatment is more effective in warm rooms.

Laundry

Once the treatment has been completed by the technician, the linen, clothing and other items that have been removed from drawers, cupboards etc and bagged, should be either:

  • Machine washed at a ‘Hot’ (60oC) setting
  • Or tumble dried at a ‘Hot’ setting for at least 30 minutes.
  • Or Dry cleaned

Look at the label for each garment to determine the laundry advice.

Keep all bags of unwashed items tightly closed until the moment they are placed in the washing
machine or tumble drier, otherwise bugs may escape and continue the infestation. Plastic bags that have been used to hold clothing etc before washing, should then be placed in a waste bin, outside
